A Glistening Garden: Where rain meets radiance
A macro photo essay - the fleeting magic of water droplets in the morning
Looking through vegetation the possibilities are endless. At f/4 no manipulation is necessary, it’s simply a choice of where you place the focus and what other worlds softness conjures up.
Greetings from the moss,
I had something in mind for this week’s letter. And then, finally, it rained. The next morning brought sunshine which called me out into the garden while those droplets remained, perfectly suspended.
From sharp suspension, I find myself again curious about those other worlds that exist among the leaves. These are the representations that whisper to me, and call for evocation rather than record. I am happy to oblige.
It didn’t last long. Water also rises in the warmth of the new month and the clouds soon returned but the droplets provided some welcome visual and sensory refreshment. And it reminded me of another love affair, with grasses. To be continued… in all probability.
Until next week,
Thank you. I appreciate each and every comment, like and share, and I’m especially grateful to those of you who say ‘thank you’ by way of a small gratuity.

Beneath the canopy: Pioneering satellite reveals rainforests' hidden worlds
A fascinating glimpse beneath both clouds and trees—the Earth as seen by the European Space Agency’s Biomass satellite. As well as estimating carbon storage, let’s hope it leads to the value of forests being recognised by those in power. On the BBC website.
A beautifully written review by Laura Cumming of the Kiefer / Van Gogh exhibition at the Royal Academy, London. Her words leapt out of the pages of my Sunday paper:
The landscape is a force field of dots, whorls and hyphens, minims and commas, notations that flow like music through the image while somehow describing the topography in hypnotic detail. Tiny figures scythe the harvest, chaff rises like haze and the bright horizon holds a seaside promise, as if there really was water beyond. And all of these sensations – heat and dust, scent and colour, pulsing summer vibrations – are achieved entirely with pencil, reed pen and ink.
